Lost Stations: Digital Arts Programme – Chapter One

If you’re a little late in hearing about our Lost Stations Digital Arts Programme, there’s still many free opportunities to get involved! To give you a better idea of what’s happened already, here are some highlights we’d like to tell you about. So far we have:

• Kicked off the programme  with a mentorship course for 12 lucky Cumbrians who will be developing their professional practise and digital art skills under the guidance of Sam Meech, our lead mentor and Graphic Design lecturer from the Manchester School of Art and co-founder of arts collective Re:Dock. We’ll soon be welcoming you all to join us for their group exhibition show in June.
• For our launch night in March, we welcomed Sam Meech to give an insightful artist talk into his diverse and innovative practices which combine digital image making, projection design, community engagement and machine knitting.
• In April we welcomed Henry Iddon, a professional photographer for over 20 years, who talked to us about the changes brought about by digital photography through his work; his talk gave insights into his use of digital and analogue mediums in photography and audio. Henry is currently exhibiting at Keswick Museum. ‘Instantanto Outdoors’, is a series of contemporary photographs taken with a 100-year-old Underwood Instanto Camera, previously used by the Abraham Brothers – original pioneers in rock-climbing photography. His sequence ‘Spots of Time’, (2008), was a digital view of the Lake District by moonlight; a project that would have been virtually impossible to photograph on film.

Our next event will welcome our first artist exhibition when we welcome digital sculptress and photographer Felicity Hammond. Please join us on Thur May 11th at 6.30pm for a private view of the exhibition opening of “In Defence of Industry” – you can find out more about the event and the rest of the year long programme at:
