Signal Starters Easter Filmmaking Workshop

NEW RECRUITS WANTED FOR AWARD​ -WINNING​  ​​SIGNAL​ ​STARTERS​ EASTER HOLIDAY WORKSHOP!

​THE POPULAR BBC​ ​CHILDREN​ ​IN NEED​ ​FUNDED​ ​PROJECT​ FOR 8-11 YR OLDS FROM SIGNAL FILM​ ​&​ ​MEDIA RETURNS WITH A PREHISTORIC THEME NEXT MONTH – AND APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

We are currently looking for 8-11 year olds who would love the opportunity to work with film industry professionals and make their own animation film in the Easter holidays. Participants will work on story creating, model-making, set design and stop motion animation using techniques and equipment found in the professional animation industry. With filmmakers and Signal Staff the young animators will have the opportunity to communicate creative ideas, develop new digital skills and form new friendships!

The four days of FREE workshops will be running from Tuesday April 3rd until Friday 6th April 2018, 10.30am until 3pm​, with lunch and refreshments included. There will be additional staff on hand for pastoral care and the participants will be working towards an Arts Award qualification.

Filmmaker and workshop leader Karen Bird said: This Easter at Signal Starters we will be using dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures as a starting point to create an animated short film. It’s going to be a lot of fun for the group to design characters, make models and animate a story.”

Karen Bird has ran previous Signal Starter workshops which have gone on to be recognised both locally and internationally. The animated short film ‘The Day Before Christmas’ made by our Signal Starters film club last December with Karen, was selected for screening at the 1st Annual Palm Springs International Animation Festival in the USA in 2017 and has reached the semi-finals for selection at the International Youth Film Festival called ZOOM.12 in Ljubljana, Slovenia in March 2018!

Signal Film and Media Project Manager Sophie Broadgate said: “At Signal we really enjoy delivering the Signal Starters project as it gives us an opportunity to nurture and develop children from the community in understanding creative digital skills and introduce them to the possibilities of the creative industries and positive role models!”

  • Dates for the workshops : 3rd – 6th April 2018
  • Workshops take place at Signal Film and Media, Cooke’s Studios, 104 Abbey road, Barrow, LA14 5QR.
  • Each day will begin at 10.30am and finish at 3.00pm.
  • Lunch is provided on the premises.
  • Supervision is only during the workshop and break times
  • Children must have an identified adult drop them off and pick them up, so please state on the form below. If this is not possible, please let us know in advance.
  • DEADLINE ​for applications is Tuesday 27th of March.
