The Winter Cinema Season is Here

As the nights draw in & there’s a chill in the air, Signal Cinema presents its fantastic new season collection of films for Winter 2016 carefully selected with upcoming themes of Music, Horror and Alternative Xmas, there are a variety of exciting movies to entertain as the days get shorter & evenings longer. These films were carefully chosen by our Signal Cinema committee members, with great consideration for the taste and interests of the local people living in Barrow. There will be 3 screenings a month of classics, modern Indie greats or family friendly films screened at our 60 seat capacity community cinema. The cinema is based in Cooke’s Studios on Abbey Road, next door to the Duke of Edinburgh, there will be the occasional pop-up event in the local area. Keep a close watch on when the programme becomes available and for those looking to get involved with the Signal Cinema Committee, or if you have any film suggestions please email us at:

Starting this season by rocking your woolly socks off this winter will be an unmissable screening of cult classic THIS IS SPINAL TAP (15 cert, 82 mins) featuring a quiz and live music as the Community Pick on Thur 3rd November at 7.30pm. This legendary mockumentary chronicles one of England’s loudest bands by director Marty DeBergi on a fateful tour of the US. Packed with endlessly quotable dialogue, this big-screen presentation will be turned up to 11!

There will be a licensed bar and popcorn for sale. Tickets are just £2.

November continues as Music Movie Month with the 2016 uplifting & heartfelt 80’s Irish drama, teen choice SING STREET (12a) on Wed 9th at 6pm. But be ready to get your punk arm ready for the savage new indie classic in GREEN ROOM (18) feat. Patrick Stewart, Joe Cole & Imogen Poots on Thur 17th at 7.30pm.

Signal Cinema brings you Alternative Xmas themed movies in December with a big-screen presentation of Tim Burton’s masterpiece THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (PG) on Wed 7th. With a “Yippee-ki- yay” decking the halls, Signal brings you the 1st and best 80’s action classic DIE HARD on Sat 17th at 7.30pm.  Signal Cinema is hosting a special screening at the Vue Cinema Barrow on Thur 15th December at 7:30pm, for a Cumbrian premier of the hit US festival circuit Indie flick I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER (15), with a special appearance by its Barrow-born scriptwriter Chris Hyde. I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER (15) follows troubled teen John Wayne Cleaver, played by Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are) as he tracks and hunts a supernatural killer whilst keeping his own homicidal tendencies at bay. Starring Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) and Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad), this black comedy premiered at South by Southwest festival in March and is already tipped to be a future cult classic based on its festival circuit success.

The New York Times review considers it “..a well-filmed indie that doesn’t let it’s low-budget get in the way of some true chills..”
