For the past few months we’ve been madly busy here at Signal, working with a group of 20 local 16 to 19 year olds on our Get Digital project, kindly funded by the Sir John Fisher Foundation and the Francis C Scott Charitable Trust and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
The youth team learnt a range of filmmaking, digital and leadership skills from visiting industry professionals through a series of masterclasses, workshops and talks.
The project culminated in a fantastic weekend-long short film shoot, where the participants shadowed filmmaker mentors including our new team member, Hollyoaks director Eddy Marshall.
Their finished film, If England, is set in a dystopian parallel Britain torn apart by civil conflict. The idea was developed by participants and cast with professional actors in the main parts. It features the acting talents of Des O’Malley (Hollyoaks) and Sophie Mercer (River City).
A public screening is set for April and we’ll shortly be recruiting for the second year of the project soon – so we’d love to hear from all future filmmakers, drop us a line and keep an eye out for news!
