Signal Film and Media is delighted to launch our second BFI Film Academy for Cumbria and Lancashire to take place throughout Autumn and Winter. The BFI Film Academy is a national scheme that aims to identify, nurture, celebrate and showcase the next generation of British film industry talent and give young people who are passionate about film the opportunity to develop the skills and ambition to forge a career in film. We’re looking for 18 budding filmmakers aged 16-19 from Cumbria and Lancashire to take part in the course which will cover all aspects of filmmaking and the film industry including programming, script writing, film production and distribution. Those selected will receive training from Industry Professionals and work towards an Arts Award qualification.

During the Academy you will:

– Take part in a short film production in a specialist area that could include – script writing, directing, producing, cinematography, production design, sound and editing.
– Develop your knowledge of film theory and historical context
– Attend special events with Industry Professionals including a current director Q&A
– Develop film programming skills (you will programme a screening event to compliment your short film)- Screen your finished film at a special industry networking event
