BFI Film Academy (16-19s) – Applications OPEN

Signal Film & Media is part of the UK Network of BFI Film Academies, which offers young people the chance to be part of our future film industry. And it’s all FREE!

 We’re looking for 18 of our areas most promising young filmmakers to take part in a free 3-month filmmaking project. They will:

  • Meet Industry professionals who will mentor them in different aspects of film making
  • Be part of a crew that will make a top quality short film which will be premiered at HOMEmcr and entered into film festivals
  • Work towards a Creative Skillset award: NCFE Level 2
  • Watch some great short and feature films and find out more about how they were made
  • Be guided through their next career steps

QUALIFICATION: By applying for this course you will work towards gaining a Creative Skillset qualification to help you get your foot through the door of a filmmaking career. Students could then progress with a range of different options such as a variety of BFI Summer Schools, residential or short courses.

*EXTRA: We’re offering 5 places for an additional screenwriting course, which will take place over two weekends before the main programme begins, 24th September and 1st October, where the script for the short film will be created. Those selected will also go on to take part in the whole project.

DATES: the main programme runs from Tuesday 18th October to 12th December 2016 and it’s free to take part. There are 18 places and those selected will be expected to attend all the dates (full schedule detailed in the application form).

DEADLINES: for applications to the main programme is Midnight 06th Oct 2016. For those wanting to apply for the additional screenwriting opportunity the deadline is Midnight 15th Sept 2016.

BURSARIES: The course is free but bursaries will also be made available if you require assistance with travel, child care or other costs. For more information about who can apply for bursaries follow the link at the bottom of the page. You should complete this form on the first day of attending the programme.

ELIGIBILITY: You must be 16-19 from the start of the programme. You should be living in Cumbria or North Lancashire and not have taken part in a past BFI Film Academy. You are not eligible if you are on a university course.
