Young People Get Digital

Get Digital is a new creative digital project that started in November 2015. 16-19 years old who are not in work or education and who live within the Furness Area are currently accessing creative digital media training led by filmmaker, Karen Bird, and will lead to further opportunities in the new year.

The project will kicked off with a taster workshop in October. Young people tried out photography, filmmaking and sound with industry professionals. Some went on to sign up to the 5 weekly workshops which are currently running throughout  November and December on Wednesday evenings.

The Get Digital workshops are an opportunity for the young people to create their own work using digital media as an alternative CV which will promote their skills on their own website/blog set up during the course. This creative web presence will be a positive presentation piece for potential employers or college admission tutors.

Led by filmmaker Karen Bird, the group have written a script and are currently making a short film to feature in their showreel. They will learn how to present their work in a professional and innovative way with sound and visual effects. There will also be the chance for them to work towards an arts award qualification with an in house advisor/mentor.
