Mental Health Partnership Project Developed by Young People

We partnered with Brewery Youth Arts in Kendal and Aston Group Theatre Factory in Barrow-in-Furness to develop a project that explored mental health conditions and the different forms that it can take.

40 individual monologues were written by Ann Wilson, a successful performer and poet based in Kendal along with the help from young people from Barrow and South Lakeland. The monologues were performed by actors from the Aston Group Theatre Factory, (located in Signal shared offices – Cooke’s Studios) and Kendal Brewery Arts. Karen Bird, one of Signal’s filmmaking practitioners filmed the 40 shorts and edited them together in a series.

The monologues deal with different aspects of mental health and well-being and are intended for use in schools to support teachers’ discussion of these issues. There were two screenings of the films at The Brewery Arts centre and at Signal’s event space. The films are passionate and very moving.

The films will be available online soon.
