MARKED THE SPECIAL PREVIEW OF OUR LATEST DIGITAL ARTS EXHIBITION: LOST STATIONS, AS WE WELCOMED 10 EMERGING CUMBRIAN ARTISTS TO THE OPENING NIGHT.

WERE PACKED INTO THE RAW BUILDING SPACE AT 102 ABBEY RD TO VIEW EACH EXCITING AND UNIQUE INTERPRETATION OF THE THEME.
In March
We launched a Digital arts mentorship programme, led by Artist and Videosmith, Sam Meech. 10 talented individuals from across Cumbria were then selected as artists to take part in a series of workshops, critical discussions and development sessions with a view to gain new digital skills and produce work for a final exhibition. The Private View which took place on Wednesday 7th was open to all and provided an opportunity to enjoy a drink, chat and meet the artists themselves.
Each artwork within the exhibition responded to the theme of Lost Stations, a subject inspired by the vast network of disused train stations that once ran throughout Barrow-in-Furness, representing the legacy of the town’s industrial boom years. These tracks are now left to traces and each artist has interpreted the theme by exploring different narratives; moving from connection, memory and identity to detachment, isolation and loss. In addition to exhibiting within a darkened, derelict space at Cooke’s Studios, Lost Stations is experimental in nature, including installations, projections, prints, animations and film.
The collection of work that has been produced utilised a variety of digital processes, while some are from more traditional mediums such as film and photography, others feature modern techniques of programming and CGI. Artists were allowed to experiment, taking their practices into previously untouched realms. Throughout the process the group was encouraged to share their progress, consequently allowing for feedback from fellow artists, the result of which offered new perspectives and inspiration. The programme encouraged consideration for both the content of the work and the presentation for exhibition.

Director of Signal Film and Media says of the show:
“We are incredibly excited to be exhibiting such a diverse mixture of local artists. They’ve been selected from across Cumbria and beautifully demonstrate the creative talent this area hosts. Visitors will be able to experience this element of Cumbria’s industrial history, reinterpreted through many different lenses and within a uniquely atmospheric space and through unexpected digital forms.”

Monday to Friday until 23rd June. 10am-6pm.
The Lost Stations programme is kindly supported by Arts Council England and will open up a world of digital art for participants and audiences in Barrow-in-Furness and Cumbria. This exhibition is part of a whole host of opportunities happening over the year to see, experience, and get involved with, including: digital & moving image art, group art projects, exhibitions, artist talks, masterclasses & hands-on workshops.
