Signal’s Hocus-Pocus Halloween Factory

Signal was taken over by nasty little nippers and yucky youngsters whilst we ran a Halloween workshop for youths in Barrow as part of our Young Cooke’s cinema strand for ages 8 – 14. After a couple of consultations with young people on specialist film, we generated feedback that led us to choose a film with a particular Halloween edge. The choice that came out on top was Tim Burton’s freaky ‘Frankenweenie’ who uses large stop-motion puppets to animate his films and sets. Alongside this we provided a session of filmmaking taster workshops for 14 children to allow our Signal youths to have a go at this particular technique in filmmaking.  They had an opportunity to try green screen, stop-motion animation and spooky foley sound workshop.  The evening was a success with new young people wanting to come along to further workshops and event.  The next Young Cooke’s Cinema event is Labyrinth showing Wednesday 16th December, 5pm!
