Signal Film and Media are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new creative heritage project Lost Journey’s on the Furness Railway 1846-1970 funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). This new project which will be led by volunteers will uncover and explore the important role that the Furness Railway played in Barrow’s thriving industrial past and find out how it is remembered today.

There were once 100’s of miles of track in Barrow and numerous train stations along the Furness line that no longer exist; we want to uncover where the lines ran and why, unearthing local memories and not so well known information along the way. Through the memories and hidden stories of the railway we will link the lives of local people to the grand history of the railway, and bring the era to life again for a new generation of people to experience.

The project runs from the end of September 2015 until April 2016 and people are invited to help launch the project with us and find out more at a special free event at Signal, with a screening of ‘The Town and The Tide’ and ‘The German Who Came To Tea’, short films made by Signal from a previous HLF project in 2012. The evening also features a talk with local Furness Railway historian Geoff Holme, and takes place on Wednesday 23rd September at 7pm, refreshments are included. This will be an opportunity for people to learn more about our previous Heritage project and how they can get involved in the new project and sign up to take part.
