COOKE'S STUDIOS, BARROW-IN-FURNESS
Join Contemporary British Photographer Vanessa Winship for a morning masterclass as part of the West Coast Photo Festival 2021.
The session will include a tour of her latest exhibition in Cooke’s Studios in Barrow-in-Furness. Plus an informal talk about the context of making the photographs, both in relation to this latest commission of the Cumbrian coastline and her earlier acclaimed work.
About the Artist
In 2011 Vanessa was the recipient of the prestigious Henri Cartier Bresson foundation (HCB) award. Her first mid-career survey was held at Fundacion Mapfre in Madrid in 2014. Followed by a major solo show at the Barbican Art gallery in 2018. She is the author of several monographs including the acclaimed books Sweet Nothings, she dances on Jackson and Schwarzes Meer. In 2019 Tate Britain acquired a collection of her work.
In her new exhibition at Cooke’s Studios for West Coast Photo, Winship’s striking and poetic images will be pieced together into several visually connecting series, to reveal a portrait of our times linking both the past with the present, one that poses questions for our future.
‘It’s extraordinary… a place of light and shade and many, many layers, one of great fragility and also of great resilience.’ – Vanessa Winship on the West Coast of Cumbria 2020.
