COOKE'S STUDIOS, BARROW-IN-FURNESS*
THE RUM STORY, WHITEHAVEN
Learn how to tell a story and get the most from your photographs in this fun workshop with Cumbrian Photographer Philip Green.
Taking inspiration from the incredible archive of postcards produced by the Sankey Family, you will learn tips and tricks for how to take an impactful documentary photograph before embarking on a guided photo walk to have a go yourself. The workshop will focus on techniques such as composition, lighting and exploring more alternative forms of documentary photography.
The Sankeys were a father and son duo who documented life in Barrow and Cumbria over 70 years. Starting in 1900, they captured the landscape, cultural changes, individuals, industry and tourism (plus much more). The postcards they created from their photography were posted all over the world and tell fascinating stories of the 20th century.
*Please note that for the Barrow-in-Furness workshop, this session will end at The Dock Museum, where you can explore the new exhibition about the Sankey photographic archive.
