SEEING THE NORTH WITH SANKEY
EXPLORING THE PHOTOGRAPHIC COLLECTION
We are beginning the next stage of our heritage project ‘Seeing the North with Sankey’.
For over seventy years, father and son team Edward and Raymond Sankey ran a local photography firm in Barrow. The images they took captured day to day life, as well as some of the momentous events that shaped the town over a remarkable period in its development.
From January we will receive 1000’s of digitised photographs, postcard books and catalogues. Over the next two years we want volunteers to join us in describing, cataloguing and exploring the collection.
SANKEY LAUNCH | Tuesday 28th January, 2pm – 4pm:
An introduction to the project with tea and cake and further opportunity to sign up to linked workshops.
We will be holding a presentation and showing a selection of newly digitised images from the collection.
WORKSHOP SERIES | Starting Tuesday 4th February 2020, 1.30pm – 4pm.
The project has been designed so that the workshops are in themed pairs. People are encouraged to sign up to all workshops or those of specific interest. Refreshments and biscuits will be provided.
