January 2015 – Mar 15 ‘Don’t Judge’ and ‘Wrong Take’

For our recent Cooke’s Crew project we worked with 30 children! We only had 15 places but we couldn’t say no to the additional 15 that applied. We changed our session plans to fit with the amount of youngsters who really wanted to be in the club. Working with Signal they mastered a variety of really technical skills including greenscreen, editing, animation, interview techniques and much much more, all whilst completing their Bronze Arts Award. In the middle of the project participants chose their favourite workshop and then continued with an intense few sessions in the area they wished to keep with. The final film created titled ‘ Wrong Take’ was shot in one extra Saturday session, the other short film ‘Don’t Judge’ was edited together as an accumulation of all the bits of work from the sessions based on the theme of perception.


October 2014- Dec 14 ‘Ninja Sue’

We hosted a weekly filmmaking club for 11-16 year olds every Wednesday at Cooke’s Studios from the October 2014 to December 2014. This workshop was delivered by the Signal team along with Russell Peet a local animator whose work has featured on BBC Newsnight. The children worked on producing a live-action puppet drama. During this time they learnt various skills including  making puppets and used a variety of technical equipment. Ninja Sue is now being entered into film festivals around the country.


October 2013-14 ‘Tweet’

We hosted a weekly filmmaking club for 11-16 year olds every Wednesday at Cooke’s Studios from the October 2013 to March 2014. The workshop was lead by Russell Peet, a local animator. The children worked on producing a short animation from concept to completion. During this time they learnt various skills including stop-frame animation, making puppets and used a variety of technical equipment.

Zombie Take-over Day

A filmmaking taster day held in August 2013 gave local young people the chance to explore different aspects of filmmaking and create different pieces of media that came together in a films about zombies taking over Barrow (Shown on the left!)

Thanks to Octopus Collective for working with the young people to develop the soundtrack
