Storytelling Photography Workshops

Free Workshops with Photographer Nicholas J.R. White
18+ | April 2025

Nicholas J.R White, East Dart

Join us with Photographer Nicholas J.R. White for a series of free creative photography workshops!

Nicholas J.R. White is a photographer living on the Inner Isles of North-West Scotland, making work for The New York Times, National Geographic, Financial Times and others. Explore his work on his website here.

For a fortnight in April 2025, Nicholas will be working with us to produce a body of work in Barrow-in-Furness in response to – and in collaboration with – the Sankey Photographic Archive, documenting the town’s relationship to coastal and inland waters.

As part of this project, Nicholas is running workshops aimed at all those who are curious about photography, storytelling and home. The sessions will involve using the Sankey Photographic Archive to reflect on the participants’ own relationships with modern day Barrow and workshop ways in which photography can be used to tell stories about people and place. Following a technical introduction to digital photographic equipment including DSLR cameras, industry standard software and apps, participants will spend two-weeks creating their own photo-stories, inspired by photographs from the Sankey Archive.

Participants will be shown how to use software to import and edit their final photographs!
