Inspiring Youth Enterprise in Cumbria

Earlier this year we travelled the length and breadth of Cumbria to produce a showcase of young entrepreneurial talent for local business-support company Furness Enterprise. We interviewed ten young people aged 13 to 27 years to capture different journeys to setting up in business. The inspiring collection of short films was launched in Autumn and has since been being shown in schools across the county, with the aim of encouraging local students to follow in the entrepreneurial footsteps of the young people featured.

We began our voyage by interviewing young designer Lydia Leith from Carlisle, whose product ‘The Royal Wedding Sick Bag’ became an overnight sensation whilst she studied at University. We finally ended on Dan Austin the owner of Lake District Farmers, who lives in Barrow and supplies meat products to establishments around the UK; his tip to other young go-getters would be to ‘Surround yourself with great people’.

We were delighted to be part of this project and create an inspiring digital document of young business start-ups. We wish all the participants all the best of luck for the future. The films are available to watch on a youtube playlist below and they are currently being shown around Cumbria in schools and colleges.
