We invite you to a special drop-in afternoon dedicated to the Sankey Photography Collection and Barrow’s local heritage. These weekly drop-in sessions feature informal talks, practical advice on technology and research, top tips on exploring the online Sankey Photography Archive, the chance to connect with fellow heritage and photography enthusiasts and more! Refreshments will be provided.
Whether you’re curious about local history, improving your skills, or simply enjoying good conversation, this event offers something for everyone.
No booking is required, just come along! Everyone is welcome for the whole session or for as long as you wish anytime between 1pm and 3pm. The Sankey Photography Online Archive is a collection of over 10,000 historical photographs taken by Edward and Raymond Sankey in Barrow-in-Furness
The physical archive, now housed at Cumbria Archives, is a stunning collection of glass plate negatives and postcards of Barrow and the north-west, which is believed to be the largest of its kind, documenting Barrow between the years of 1890 and 1970.
The images were catalogued and digitised as part of the Seeing the North with Sankey Project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage fund with the support of a team of volunteers.
