In 1921 by reason of high costs and labour difficulties, Cunard decided that construction on the Scythia’s sister ship Servia and the smaller ship Antonia was to be suspended until conditions returned to normal. Antonia was launched on 11 March 1921 and towards the end of April work on both ships stopped. The Antonia was restarted about the end of September, but work was suspended on the Servia which was still on the stocks. Work commenced again on Servia in the Spring of 1924, and on 24 February 1925 she was launched and renamed Carinthia.
