Mrs Pankhurst Leaves England – Suffragist Mystery

1913

written by Wendy Kolbe

There appear to be two ‘Mysteries’ relating to Mrs Pankhurst

Mrs Pankhurst Leaves England 15th August 1913

Mrs Pankhurst left England for the Continent to join her daughter Christabel in Paris. Having previously been released from prison on licence she now refused to recognise the licence, referring to her ‘immunity from arrest’ and to being ‘a free woman’. Although the police were aware of her whereabouts, they did not attempt to stop her journey.
