Arizona, Mystery Ships

The SS Arizona seized by Customs at Barrow while being converted by Vickers to mount guns and carry ammunition for Paraguayan rebels. Another ship, the Foam Queen, was arrested at Vickers Wharf, the Erith while being converted for the same purpose, while a third, the Salop, evaded Customs.  At the Piel Anchorage the coaster Bessie, carrying ammunition for the Arizona, was arrested. Part of her cargo was disembarked and sent to Eskmeals; the remaining 70 tons of explosives being unloaded at Erith.
