Following the Admiralty’s costly efforts at yacht design, a new Enchantress was put out to tender.  The contract was won by Harland and Wolff Ltd., Belfast and the launch took place on 7^th November 1903. In late 1904 Enchantress arrived at Portsmouth Dockyard for alterations including the shortening of the funnel, to which was fitted a mouth, and the painting of her hull black; originally white.
